(AP) ? Workers at the small machinery company had just returned for their first shift following Italy's powerful and deadly quake earlier this month when another one struck Tuesday morning, collapsing the roof.

At least three employees at the factory ? two immigrants and an Italian engineer checking the building's stability ? were among those killed in the second deadly quake in nine days to strike a region of Italy that hadn't considered itself particularly quake prone.

By late Tuesday, the death toll stood at 17, with several people still missing, including a worker at the machinery factory in the small town of San Felice Sul Panoro. Some 200 people also were injured in the 5.8 magnitude quake north of Bologna in Emilia Romagna, one of Italy's more productive regions, agriculturally and industrially.

Factories, barns and churches fell, dealing a second blow to a region where thousands remained homeless from the May 20 temblor, much stronger in intensity, at 6.0 magnitude.

The two quakes struck one of the most productive regions in Italy at a particularly crucial moment, as the country faces enormous pressure to grow its economy to stave off the continent's debt crisis. Italy's economic growth has been stagnant for at least a decade, and the national economy is forecast to contract by 1.2 percent this year.

The area encompassing the cities of Modena, Mantua and Bologna is prized for its super car production, churning out Ferraris, Maseratis and Lamborghinis; its world-famous Parmesan cheese, and less well-known but critical to the economy: machinery companies.

Like the May 20 quake, many of the dead in Tuesday's temblor were workers inside huge warehouses, many of them prefabricated, that house factories. Inspectors have been determining which are safe to re-enter, but economic pressure has sped up renewed production ? perhaps prematurely.

Seven people were killed in the May 20 quake. In both, the dead were largely and disproportionately workers killed by collapsing factories and warehouses.

Co-workers of Mohamed Azeris, a Moroccan immigrant and father of two who died in the just-reopened factory, claim he was forced back to work as a shift supervisor or faced losing his job. A local union representative had demanded an investigation.

"Another earthquake ? unfortunately during the day ? that means people were inside working, so I think that an investigation will need to be opened here to check who cleared as safe these companies to understand who's responsible for this," Erminio Veronesi told The Associated Press.

At another factory closer to the epicenter in in the city of Medolla, rescue crews searched for three workers who did not turn up at roll call after the quake and were presumed dead.

Premier Mario Monti, tapped to steer the country from financial ruin in November, pledged that the government would quickly provide help to the area "that is so special, so important and so productive for Italy."

The Coldiretti farm lobby said damage to the agricultural industry, including Parmesan makers whose aging wheels of cheese already suffered in the first quake, had risen to ?500 million ($626 million) with the second hit. The Modena Chamber of Commerce estimated that the first quake alone had cost businesses ?1.5 million, with no fresh estimates immediately available.

Ferrari, Maserati and Lamborghini, all centered around Modena, reported no damage, and said workers were evacuated and then allowed to go home to check on their homes and families. Lamborghini planned to keep production halted on Wednesday.

The quake was felt from Piedmont in northwestern Italy to Venice in the northeast and as far north as Austria. Dozens of aftershocks hit the area, some registering more than 5.0 in magnitude.

The temblor terrified many of the thousands of people who have been living in tents or cars since the May 20 quake and created a whole new wave of homeless.

"I was shaving and I ran out very fast, half dressed," a resident of Sant'Agostino, one of the towns devastated in the quake earlier this month, told AP Television News.

Tuesday's quake struck just after 9 a.m. with an epicenter 40 kilometers (25 miles) northwest of Bologna, according to the U.S. Geological Survey ? just several kilometers (miles) away from where the 6.0-magnitude quake that killed seven people on May 20 was centered.

In the town of Mirandola, near the epicenter, the church of San Francesco crumbled, leaving only its facade standing. The main cathedral also collapsed. Sant'Agostino's town hall, so damaged in the May 20 quake that it looked as if it had been bombed, virtually fell apart when the latest deadly temblor struck.

Labor Minister Elsa Fornero suggested the destruction to buildings was out of proportion, considering the magnitude of the quake. "It is natural that the earth shakes. But it is not natural that buildings collapse," Fornero said told lawmakers in Parliament's lower Chamber of Deputies.

The May 20 quake was described by Italian emergency officials as the worst to hit the region since the 1300s. In addition to the deaths, it knocked down a clock tower and other centuries-old buildings. Its epicenter was about 35 kilometers (22 miles) north of Bologna.

It's not clear why two large quakes have occurred this month, said Jessica Turner, a geophysicist with the U.S. Geological Survey in Golden, Colo. The basic driver of the activity is the same kind of geological shifting that produced the Alps, she said.

Prior to May 20, the last earthquake in the region with magnitude that large was in 1501.

Residents had just been taking tentative steps toward resuming normal life when the second quake struck. In Sant'Agostino, a daycare center had just reopened. In the town of Concordia, the mayor had scheduled a town meeting Tuesday evening to discuss the aftermath of the first quake. Instead, Mayor Carlo Marchini confirmed the death of one person struck by falling debris in the town's historic center.

Italy's soccer match against Luxembourg, a warm-up for the Euro 2012 championships, was canceled. The game had been scheduled to be played Tuesday in Parma, just 60 kilometers (40 miles) west of the quake.

US ranks No. 1 in wealth, not in happiness

By Allison Linn

Americans make more money and are slightly more satisfied with their lives, on average, than people in other countries, but here?s the catch: We live slightly shorter lives.

Those are among the findings of an updated study of well-being released Tuesday by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, which promotes economic and social satisfaction.

The OECD?s Better Life Index was launched in 2011 as a more nuanced way to gauge well-being in its 34 member countries, which include the United States. Besides the usual data points, such as income and education, the Better Life Index looks at things like work-life balance and life satisfaction.

In the updated version released Tuesday, the U.S. ranks well in several traditional and nontraditional areas, especially income, compared with the other 33 countries in Europe, Asia and the Americas.

Average earnings in the U.S. are higher than in many other member countries, although the OECD notes that the gap between rich and poor is relatively high. The U.S. rankes No. 1 in average household wealth, at $102,000. Only Switzerland comes close, with average household wealth of about $95,000.

The U.S. also gets high marks for housing. That ranking looks not just at the quality of housing ? including ?rooms per person and access to indoor plumbing ? but also relative cost. On average, Americans spend about 20 percent of their disposable income on housing, a little bit less than the 22 percent average, the index finds.

The United States also ranks above average in life satisfaction, with 76 percent of people reporting having more positive than negative experiences in an average day. That compares to 72 percent overall in the 34 countries.

But plenty of countries report higher levels of life satisfaction, including Denmark, Norway and Switzerland.

It might not be a surprise that we do less well in terms of work-life balance. People in most countries report a better balance between career and personal lives than we achieve, with Denmark, Belgium and Spain leading the way. Mexico, Turkey and Japan rank lower than the U.S.

In addition, the OECD reports that the average life expectancy in the United States is just under 79 years, lower than the OECD average of 80 years.

How Do I Lose Weight Fast ... - Subliminal Self Hypnosis

By Houstan Vlark ?http://subliminalselfhypnosis.com/pblog/how-do-i-lose-weight-fast/

People often ask themselves how do I lose weight on a regular basis. Oftentimes, the same people have tried various types of routines with little to no success, with some growing more frustrated with each attempt. Even though this type of journey can be frustrating, tiresome and confusing, it may help to consider some things, which could help you in the end.

Being able to get back into shape can depend on several different factors, in most cases. For instance, it can be highly important to make smart and healthy eating choices. Regardless if you workout several hours a week, you?re not likely to see results that are as effective as you would be eating properly.

The type of exercise that you do and how often you do it may play a major role in your overall success. Therefore, it?s key to choose something that works right for you, rather than doing what you think is popular at the time.

People often become tired of the same routines. This is sometimes because most take on whatever may be the trend at that moment, even if they generally don?t appreciate that type of workout normally. In order to ensure a routine you can stick to, try to get into activities that you enjoy.

These days, there are various routines or activities that you can do. This might include traditional aerobics, dance classes or DVDs, swimming, sports, among other things as well. Also, don?t hesitate to vary what you do. This will help to keep your body challenged, which will keep it working harder.

Speaking to a professional who specialized in the world of fitness can often be beneficial, and they may be able to point you in the right direction, so that you can answer the question to the common question of how do I lose weight fast. This could be anyone from a nutritionist or dietician, down to a fitness expert or health-conscious life coach.

Survivor Winner Crowned, New Season Announced

It was ladies night on Survivor: One World yesterday, as five women battled for the $1 million grand prize on the season 24 finale.

But - no offense to Chelsea, Sabrina, Alicia or Christina - these final few episodes have really been all about Kim Spradlin, who dominated as few before her have, earning the votes of the contest-filled jury AND the $100,000 reward as the Fan Favorite.

The only question isn't whether Kim deserved to win it all, but where she now ranks among all-time Survivor greats such as Boston Rob (Survivor: Redemption Island), Brian Heidik (Survivor: Thailand) and Tom Westman (Survivor: Palau)?

Jeff Probst, meanwhile, announced that season 25 would take Survivor to the Philippines, where three previous contestants who left their editions early due to injury will return. Watch a preview for what's to come and then read an extended Survivor finale review at TV Fanatic:

What NBC's Schedule Shakeups Mean For Your Favorite Shows

Several major shifts indicate that the network, currently at fourth place, is looking to rebuild from scratch.
By John Mitchell

Ahead of its upfront presentation on Monday (May 14), NBC has released its 2012-2013 primetime schedule, and it is heavy on shakeups as the struggling network attempts to refocus and make itself "Must-See TV" again. The biggest and strangest move is the shift of comedies "Whitney" and "Community" to Fridays at 8 and 8:30 p.m., respectively. NBC entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, did not beat around the bush when addressing how industry pundits interpreted the move. "I know that most people in our industry think Friday is a graveyard but we don't really believe that," Greenblatt said about the move. "If you don't build it they won't come."

Dramas and crime procedurals aimed at an older audience (think "Ghost Whisperer" and "Medium") have historically been the only shows able to maintain an audience on the difficult night, and it's telling that the network made this same move with another low-rated cult hit comedy, "Chuck," on its fall schedule last year.

Beyond "Community," there are several major moves on NBC's lineup that indicate a long-term, full-scale programming overhaul that execs no doubt hope will help the network move out of fourth place and restore the Peacock to its former glory.

Below are some of the biggest changes and what they might mean for the future of your favorite shows.

"The Voice" returns in the fall to anchor Mondays and Tuesdays
"The Voice" has been one of the few true hits NBC has been able to launch in the last several years. Its overall ratings are strong and it is a leader in the 18-49 demographic that advertisers covet. NBC is banking on the show big time next year, airing two cycles (fall and spring) instead of just one, and pairing it with its three most buzzed-about new shows, hoping that its ratings lead-in will spell success across the board.

On Mondays, "The Voice" will toss to J.J. Abrams/Eric Kripke's hotly anticipated thriller "Revolution" and on Tuesdays to comedies "Go On" and "The New Normal." "Go On" marks Matthew Perry's return to NBC after several well-liked but low-rated attempts ("Studio 60," "Mr. Sunshine") to rekindle his TV stardom and he's not taking any chances — the show, a single-camera comedy about a struggling sportscaster, was written and created by his former "Friends" showrunner Scott Silveri specifically for him.

Like "Revolution" and "Go On," "The New Normal" comes from the mind of another TV giant, "Glee" creator Ryan Murphy. About a gay couple (Andrew Rannells and "Hangover" star Justin Bartha) and their attempts to start a family with a surrogate (Georgia King), who herself is hoping to give her 8-year-old daughter a new start, "Normal" was considered such a sure thing based on its strong pilot and Murphy's clout that the show began staffing before NBC had even officially announced its pickup.

"Go On" and "Normal" — along with new Wednesday comedies "Animal Practice" and "Guys with Kids" — represent NBC's push to develop new comedies as it looks to find shows to replace those currently holding down its low-rated, award-winning Thursday lineup.

Thursdays stay the same ... for now
NBC has already announced a shortened, 13-episode final season for "30 Rock," though it pleased many by announcing it was sticking by "Up All Night" and "Parks and Recreation." Neither show has ever been an all-out ratings winner, but both have been consistent performers, drawing better ratings on Thursdays than the aging "Rock." While "The Office" is experiencing series-low numbers, it remains the top scripted comedy on the network (that's how tough things are for NBC right now), and "Parks and Rec" held on to more of its "Office" lead-in audience than either "Rock" or "Night" did in the 9:30 timeslot, so it's no surprise NBC is keeping the acclaimed comedies where they are.

But with ratings flagging across the board, NBC's move to keep its Thursday lineup is probably an attempt to appease the very fans they will court for new shows. ("The New Normal" is aimed squarely at the same young adult-to-early-30s audience that got riled when the net didn't announce an immediate pick-up for "Parks.")

With so many new comedies in the works at NBC, fans of its Thursday shows would be silly to think that — unless they experience a major ratings turnaround next season — this won't be the last season of both "The Office" and "Parks and Recreation." "Up All Night" could benefit in the long term if "The New Normal" or any of the family-centric sitcoms the net is launching on Wednesdays take off. NBC execs reportedly like the show, and it is new enough to thrive if paired with the right lead-in.

Say farewell to "Community" and "Whitney"
When it comes to "Community," Greenblatt perhaps protests too much. The show enjoys a devoted cult audience, but it simply isn't large enough to justify keeping the show on the air much longer, and it's very unlikely the small audience it does have will follow it to Friday nights. That said, as with "Parks and Rec" and "The Office," the net doesn't want to alienate the show's fans, so it will — just as it did with its cult-favorite "Chuck" last year — let the increasingly troubled comedy burn off its remaining episodes and go out with a planned-for conclusion.

Need more proof that the show is on its way to the graveyard? Consider its haphazard, ill-fitting lead-in, "Whitney." The two shows are not only polar opposites on their own, they are aimed at entirely different audiences. (Interestingly, don't be surprised if "Whitney," which skews older, does better on Fridays than "Community.")

After both shows inevitably bite the dust, we wouldn't be surprised if NBC shifted "Law & Order: SVU" to Fridays to let the show, which has seen its own ratings fall dramatically since Christopher Meloni's departure, either wind down or enjoy a small-scale resurgence. "SVU" is a more logical fit with the net's current Friday procedural fantasy "Grimm" and the two shows could prop each other up.

Serena Williams Rap Song (LISTEN)

The Serena Williams rap song is worth listening to. I think it would really inspire everyone to give the rap business a try, because if what she made passes for a single, then there’s a good chance everyone can do it. Please don’t misunderstand me. As a woman, I am very aware of how amazing her career in tennis has been. She overcame huge racial barriers, and found a successful career in a very snooty sport, known to be popular amongst the wealthy, country-club crowd. She went on to win the biggest tennis contest in the world, which turned her into a role-model for many minority athletes. But if you put all of that aside and listen to this song, it is very difficult to take her seriously. Check the rest of the story out over at TMZ, and watch the video below. I think Ashton Kutcher makes an amazing Steve Jobs – Bumpshack. Man, Jennifer Aniston is really showing signs of being pregnant. I wonder if this is making Brad Pitt jealous… I sort of doubt it – Celebrity Dirty Laundry. The man who murdered Jennifer Hudson’s family was finally found guilty – Diva Artist. LG Eclipse, coming at the end of 2012, will have specs relevant for the end of 2012

LG superphone

The folks at BriefMobile got hold of some info about an upcoming LG LS970 for Sprint, and it has some impressive specs -- namely the quad-core Krait S4 and 2GB of RAM. All the info they have certainly looks legit, and it's very likely we'll see this one sometime in Q4. But while everyone is in awe of those impressive innards (including most of us here at AC) we have to remember that these are exactly the components we expect to see at the end of this year. We're ready for the next generation of hardware, but unfortunately we'll have to wait a while longer for it.

Samsung's SHV-E170K is a mid-range Galaxy S III variant for Korea Telecom

Android Central

It's been just a week since we saw the Samsung Galaxy S III unveiled at London's Earl's Court arena, but already the international variants of the device are starting to appear. The first is from Korea Telecom, and comes with the snappy interim title of SHV-E170K. The device, which you'll see over on the left in the photo above, looks like a cross between a Galaxy Player 7.0 and a Galaxy S III (and also bears more than a passing resemblance to this alleged S III leak from back in March.)

It's a bit more angular than the international Galaxy S III, but it's running the same combination of ICS and the TouchWiz "Nature UX" that you'll find on that phone. The SHV-E170K is confirmed to be an LTE-capable handset, but other specs have yet to be officially announced. Based on benchmark results, SammyHub? postulates that it'll carry a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 chip, a 5MP rear camera, 1.3MP front-facer and a 4.3-inch qHD SuperAMOLED screen. Essentially, this is to the Galaxy S III what the HTC One S is to the One X.

No word on whether we'll see this thing outside of Korea, but we wouldn't be surprised to see a HSPA+ version of this thing in the months ahead, as Samsung brings its mid-range portfolio up-to-date.

NVIDIA reports Q1 earnings: rakes $60.4 million profit on $924.9 million in revenue

NVIDIAWhat's black and white and red all over? One thing it's probably not is NVIDIA's Q1 2013 earnings report. That's why we're here to dig through the muck and tell you that the company saw both profits and revenue fall from last quarter. Revenue was down three percent to $924.9 million but, more shockingly, net income dropped 47.9 percent to just $60 million. With a slew of new product launches over the last few months NVIDIA is optimistic about the future and actually managed to beat Wall Street's expectations. Though it offers little explanation for the drop off in its earnings press release, we'd expect things to get back to normal soon. For all the fine financial details, check out the PR after the break.

Amber Portwood: Jailed For Lying About Drug Test!

Troubled Teen Mom star Amber Portwood is back in an Indiana jail after local prosecutors claimed she lied about a medical condition to avoid a drug test.

As part of her probation, Portwood is required to undergo a weekly test and drug court appointment. She was apparently a no-show at last week.

Amber told officials that she was on doctor-ordered bed rest following laparoscopic gall bladder surgery and required to remains so for 2-3 weeks.

A good excuse ... if only it were legitimate.

Teen Mom's Amber Portwood

Amazingly, Amber Portwood's case manager didn't want to take the reality star's word for it. After he spoke to the doctor directly, he learned she lied.

The doctor insisted she WAS well enough to attend her court obligations, and Amber was immediately hauled back to jail for missing the appointment.

Because of the obvious violation of her probation, she's expected to stay behind bars for at least a few weeks until a judge decides the next step.

This isn't her first drug test no-show ... or legal issue stemming from her own lies. She also underreported her income to score government-subsidized housing.

Nokia swings Mail for Exchange to Series 40 dumbphones: now in beta labs for testing (video)

Mail for Exchange on Series 40

Nokia isn't just shaking up your browser on your humble Series 40 phone. This time, those cheap little bundles of communication goodness are preparing to get mail for Exchange, with the feature now undergoing testing in its Beta Labs. While Nokia might not be king of the phone hill anymore, there's still plenty of its solid dumbphones itching to get a taste of corporate email. This holds especially true for developing countries where the phone series still sells well and where Nokia's still pushing to increase its foothold. While you'll only be able to feel up the beta at the source below, the full-fat version is shaping up for a June launch and will be initially compatible with both the Asha 302 and 303. You'll need your phone's latest software to test out the beta, but if you're covered there, grab your goggles and visit Nokia's labs at the source below. If not, you'll have to make do with the intro video after the break.

Cloud Storage Service Pogoplug Goes After Business Users With ...

Cloud storage service and device maker?Pogoplug?is expanding beyond the consumer space today, to focus on the more potentially profitable business market. With a new offering dubbed ?Pogoplug Team,? the company is introducing a service that will turn a file server or spare PC into a private cloud for storing data onsite. The idea, like most of what Pogoplug offers, is to provide a DIY cloud storage alternative to third parties like Dropbox, Google Drive, or Box.net.

The company, known best for its hardware devices that plug into your router to instantly create your personal cloud, has been rolling out hardware-free options like?desktop applications?and?mobile apps to funnel users into the Pogoplug Cloud without the need for extra equipment.

To use the new ?Teams? service, a business installs Pogoplug Team software onto any machine running Windows, Mac or Linux, and then assigns various folders on the computer to the employees needing access. Upping the storage is a DIY process, too ? you just add another hard drive to your computer or server.

Pricing for the Teams offering is competitive with third-parties ? actually, it?s even lower (unless, of course, you have to go out and buy a server to get started!). For example, a shared cloud with 4 TB of storage and access by 10 people (400 GB/person) would be $150/year on Pogoplug Team, but $2,400/year on GDrive ($20 / month * 10 employees = $200 / month),?$1447/year on Dropbox Teams ($795 / year + $125/year * 5 additional employees) ?- ?200GB / user ? 400GB requires more money), $1,800/year on Box ($15 / month * 10 employees ? only 100GB per employee ? for 400GB requires a custom plan and more money)?and $539.88/year on Egnyte ?($44.99 / month ? 100GB / user ? no visible plan for 400GB / user).

For 2TB and 5 people, the cost is $75/year. On GDrive, that?s $600/year, Dropbox Teams is $795/year, Box is $900/year, Engntye is $539.88/year.

Also, because it?s locally-hosted, there aren?t file size limits, and onsite transfers will move at LAN speeds, not cloud speeds. Remote access lets users view and download from any PC, web, or mobile/tablet device. The user interface can also be customized and branded to better match the organization?s other online services. And, again because it?s on an onsite computer, the Pogoplug server can be backed up as usual via whatever backup system is already in place at the office.

There?s a bit of geekiness to a DIY cloud solution in the era of everything-as-a-service, but geekiness still has a place in many small groups and teams, which often need an under-the-radar solution that doesn?t require a big line item expense approval from the powers-that-be. Pogoplug, which says it specifically that it?s ?not focused on enterprise,? could easily be that quick fix solution for budget-conscious users. More info will be available here?(at?noon ET).
