It is all to easy to fall for the trap of picking a simple key word that describes your business, such as dentist selecting ?dentist? as their key word.? The other trap is just the opposite and is selecting your business name as the key word.? To stay with the dentist example, it would be like using ?Bob?s Family Dentistry? as your key word.

So, if you can not select either of these two examples, where do you draw keywords from?? You can use your geographic location and business area if you are looking for local customers.? Again, following our dentist example, you might select ?dentist Miami? as your key work.? This would appeal to people looking for a local business.? If you are looking broader for your customers, then you must select other key words.

To find key words, you must know your business well.? Who are your targeted customers and what value do you deliver that sets you apart?

Google? has a key word research tool that can be quite useful for this search.? Creating an account can be done from your Google account, which is free if you do not have one yet.? This tool will let you enter key words and it will report on the amount of traffic will be? driven to this search term.? It will also give an approximation of how challenging of a key word this is to capture traffic from.? A very challenging key work will have established competitors who are aggressively marketing already.

The tools will also suggest similar key words that you can compete for that are less competitive.? You can select several of these less competitive key words to compete for and together they may be able to deliver as much traffic as a more challenging key word.? As your site ranks higher and has more credibility, you will be able to compete for the more difficult key words on a regular basis.
